OPEN LETTER TO THE G 20-”THE LETTER” by THE BOX TOPS

An  Open letter to G20 leaders is essential to addressing climate is key to global revival.

We need to solve both pressing problems  without interference now that we have this opportunity: Coronavirus and then Climate change have a similar solution. With some forethought the world can do both. We need to prioritize energy subsidies so they include green thinking.

This song was big for this band from Memphis . It launched Alex Chilton’s  career (Big Star was also his band.)  I selected a lyric video cause 1967, the year I graduated College,  was so bleak, I have trouble watching any videos of that era.

LET”S TALK “PLAN B”-”UTOPIA” by ANNIE LEBLANC

The Plan B movement might be naive but not having one is just as dumb. If we are to believe the energy industry, sustainability is right around the corner, but i learned to not trust anyone. I’m afraid without Plan B thinking as “flawed humans” getting to Utopia is going to be evasive.

I like Annie’s concept of Utopia. I chose another lyrics video. I would like to embrace the Plan B movement and get to a utopian place.

ENERGY PROFITS ARE THE ROOT OF CLIMATE CHANGE-”MONEY CHANGES EVERYTHING” by THE BRAINS

The energy industry needs to make a sustainability pledge. The movement holding the biggest energy investor accountable, Blackrock, has a web-site and an action program today. This industry is the biggest causes of pollution in the world where climate cooperation is required.

I choose a song by the original artist, The Brains, an Atlanta band. This song written by band member Tom Gray and it was made a hit by Cyndi Lauper. Here’s a link to the lyrics viedo of the her take on this song.

PLASTIC FROM PLANTS-”PLASTIC SMILE“ by BLACK UHURU (DUB VERSION)

It’s a great  “Plan B” to make plastic from plant based material so the plastic can degrade in a year. It seems Coke and Carlsberg think this is a good idea. If it means less plastic waste, Pete thinks this is a good idea.

Dub is the best medium for this song and using Black Uhuru’s song and vocals let the the legendary musicians Sly and Robbie and the Taxi Gang make  this version so interesting and compelling.

THYPHOON AND A PANDEMIC-MY GENERATION by THE WHO

“A global pandemic does not mean the climate crisis has stopped,” says 350.org. “If anything, it has only exacerbated the problem.”

We face the biggest problem of our lives and Russ Ellis is right. The youth should solve this, but it looks like a bunch of old men are being selected to solve this problem that effects the youth of the world.

I found  a lyrics version. Thanks to RockinBassPlayer3 for making  this classic written by Peter Townsend performed by his band The Who available. It was written as a defense of the Mod culture.

SCIENCE AND SANITY-“THE STUPIDTY” by THE VAN DYKES

We cannot negotiate with nature and the planetary boundaries.”

Plus besides science we need some SANITY from the populations of the world.

Watching the differing opinions of science and sanity during this pandemic, I have become convinced the climate solution and the pandemic are one and the same and require both good science and a sanity in this insane world.

“Regional hits were us” in the radio era I knew, and this song by the Van Dykes, written by Solomon Burke about the dance the “Stupidity” is a perfect example of this. It’s worth a listen.

FRIDAYS FOR FUTURE-”FRIDAY ON MY MIND” by EARTH QUAKE

This organization is doing something about climate issues. They describe themselves as   “a global movement that began in August 2018, when 15-year-old Greta Thunberg and other young activists began a school strike for climate. Every school day for three weeks, she sat outside the Swedish Parliament, demanding urgent action on the climate crisis.

To begin with, she was alone, but she was soon joined by others. On the 8th of September, Greta decided to continue striking every Friday until the Swedish policies provided a safe pathway well under 2° C, i.e. in line with the Paris agreement”.

This song is a cover version of The Easybeats song, This video contains some  early photos and interesting packaging of this Berkeley band.

HOUSE ON FIRE-”LIGHT MY FIRE” by THE DOORS

I got an email from WWZero it had a link to this powerful video. This video was made by Fridays For Future. I was so impressed by their demands. It looks like the  Plan “BI’ve been searching for.

This song was so popular,  it was edited down to a 3 minute version from the 7 minute album track to be a big selling vinyl single. Joshey Vargas added lyrics and some classic photos to make this video rock.

IT’S UP TO YOU-”CHIKA a DING” by RUSS ELLIS

Todays problems require a brand new skill set. It’s the young voters who are going to have to solve them. The youth turnout rate for our democracy must improve. There is no way to solve existing problems without a new mindset and young people voting.

Russ Eliss, father of Dave, has voiced the need to vote in his song and video. It’s truly a multi-generational effort involving the entire Ellis family. I found this wonderful video made by Alcide Marshall on youtube.com.

C02 IS ON THE RISE-”BURNING SKY” by THE UPTONES

Just because we can see the air quality swiftly improve during the pandemic. It seems the C02 level is still rising. C02 is is quite a force for warming  in climate change issue. We must reduce the levels of this gas to combat global warming.

I selected the song “Burning Sky” by The Uptones and found them in Wikipedia this is what they said:

By the time the Uptones broke up in 1989, they had become an influence on other popular California bands such as Rancid,[6] Sublime,[1] and Green Day.[7] Rancid covered The Uptones song “Get Out of My Way” on their 1993 self-titled album.
