Composting seems to be a way to cut down Green House emissions (especially methane.)
This process involves decomposition of organic material (food scraps)l into a humus-like material, known as compost, which is a good fertilizer for plants. N.Y.C. is seriously looking into this process for the future. Pete likes that it starts voluntary then starts mandatory. Here’s the story in the N.Y.Times.
This could be a good blueprint for other cities. The City Council Speaker endorsed the program and the budget committee said it was an expensive outlay but a cost saver. Pete hopes it’s a planet-saver too.
